07-FEB-2005
Alex Ferrero is an 18 year old senior at Bishop Brady high school in Concord, NH. In 2004 Alex raced internationally at the Tour de L'Abitibi in Canada and at the Junior Tour of Ireland. He is also the current Junior Time Trial and Criterium Champion in New Hampshire.

How did you get into the sport of cycling?

My dad was mountain biking and brought me into it. I hated riding at first but then I did my first race, a NORBA kids race and was hooked from then on

What made you decide to switch from mountain bike racing to the road scene?

My family had to move and there was a local team called New Hampshire Junior Cycling Academy which did both road and mountain bike racing. The coaches on that team got me involved in road racing and taught me a lot about tactics and things like t! hat. There was about 4 or 5 of us that raced together and after the first season I got hooked onto road and haven't done much with my mountain bike since.

How long have you been racing and what is your best race experience to date?

I've only been racing seriously about 3 years on the road. Before that I would do the occasional mountain bike race. My best race experience so far was probably the M. Donnelly Junior Tour of Ireland. It was awesome to get the chance to race against international competition in Europe and it was a huge learning experience.

What do you think your strengths and weaknesses are?

I think that my strengths are in sprinting. I usually do better in criteriums and flatter road races and I'm OK at time trialling. My biggest weakness is climbing.

What is your goals for next season?

My goals for next season are to learn a lot in my first year as an Espoir. I would love to go back to Europe to race again, that will be my biggest goal. I want to have a good showing at alot of the local and NRC races as well and get some good results in Pro 1-2 races.

You're in the middle of the college process right now. What do you think you'd like to major in and how will cycling play a role in college?

At the moment, I think I'd like to major in Exercise Science with a minor in business. As far as location goes, I just want to go some place warmer than New Hampshire because winters can be pretty brutal here. Cycling is going to be a huge factor in college and I'm looking forward to racing in the collegiate ranks and racing throughout college.

What are you most looking forward to with racing on Sakonnet Technology next year?

I'm looking forward to meeting new people and traveling to some big races. I think that the opportunities are awesome here and I'm excited to have the chance to race wiith the team in 05.

What are your other interests outside of cycling?

I'm really into music and I play bass guitar in a funk band at my high school. I also love to do bike trials in my free time.

In a band and a fierce sprinter, the ladies must love this guy - Editor.
