EVENT: Redlands Classic UCI 2.2 (CA) - 3/31 to 4/3

Sakonnet rides Andy Guptill and Lee Rosenthal joined a composite team to enter the Pro - 1 Redlands Classic being contested over this weekend in sunny California. After a quite opening time trial for both men, Andy rocked the house on the second day of competition at the Oak Glen Road Race which was contested over 172km. The field was blown to pieces after a grueling day facing harsh winds and an uphill finish of 13km. Andy was the first U23 rider across the line in a fantastic 23rd place.

EVENT: CRCA Team Cup

Sakonnet riders Bob/Bruce Weyman, Peter Horn, Basil Moutsopoulos and Lee Sossen braved the pouring rain and high winds at this morning’s first Team Cup event in Central Park. Surprisingly the field was large and hungry for action after several canceled Club races.

Storming the way for the Team was Weyman who has found his reawakened animal instinct. After an early solo break moved away (Craig Upton) from the field on the first lap it was the Weyman show of repeated attacks trying to force a split. Sossen was the first Team causality on lap two with a front flat and was later seen running a 10-mile training run at 6:30 pace later in the race (crazy Duatheltes!).

Back in the field with just 8 miles to go Moutsopoulos blew out his front tire after ridding thru a pothole descending Harlem Hill. Left at the front of a now small field of around 15 was Weyman and Horn.

Covertly 2 men had left the pack, they managed to bridge the gap to Upton on the last lap. In the final it was Brinkin (Remax) who took the race and the field was shooting for 4th.

Weyman not taking no for an answer kept his elbows high and finished 2nd in the field sprint for 5th place and Horn crossed the line in 10th or 11th place.

EVENT: Durango Shoot Out Criterium (CO) - 3/26

Sakonnet riders Johnny Hayes, Chris Kuhl and Andy Guptill took a wild ride at last weekends Durango Shoot Out. Mid way thru the event there was a solo breakaway until Chris and Johnny hit the front and ramped up the pace so that Andy could get across. Four others tagged along in the move and so a new break formed composed of 6 riders. Back in the field Chris and Johnny kept a clamp on things and the break continued to roll away. Not know for his sprinting Andy was still able to pull off a fine 4th place out of the break while Chris and Johnny hunted the tail end of the top 10 with an 8th place for Chris and a 10th place for Johnny.

EVENT: 4th Avenue Criterium (AZ) - 3/27

Sakonnet rider Lee Rosenthal took matters to right in his adopted hometown of Tucson's local event the 4th Avenue Criterium. Not working and riding full time this spring Rosenthal is hungry for cash and after a break of 6 slipped the field Lee was needing some burrito money and wouldn't take no for an answer in the field sprint. Coming out of the last corner and opening the jets Lee cross the line in 7th place and took the last money spot of the day. He then enjoyed a nice chipolte chicken burrito at his favorite Mexican spot.
