Mesa State Collegiate Race Weekend - Grand Junction, CO (April 23rd &
24th)
Sakonnet's Chris Kuhl capped a fantastic weekend in neighboring Grand Junction
with a string of results. On day one in a 20km I.T.T Kuhl powered away from
the competition aboard his new Specialized Transition to a 1st Place finish. Kuhl's first victory of the year gave him the confidence to launch a break in the
next days Mad Cow Road Race. Riding the entire event with 5 other men including a Fort Lewis College teammate Chris took 2nd Place in a 4 up sprint after his colleague slipped the break with 6 miles to go.
Durango Criterium - Durango, CO (April 17th)
Sakonnet's Lee Rosenthal took advantage of a sleeping field and his strong
form to power a move of 4 men away from the field at the Durango Criterium. After repeated attacks Lee found himself solo and on his way to a victory but a
mishap caused him to be re-caught by the break. No matter as Lee used his fast finish
to take 1st Place in the race. Lee is prepping himself for the upcoming Tour
de Gila where he took the win in last years stage 3 Criterium.
Miami of Ohio Collegiate Race Weekend - Oxford, OH (April 16th & 17th)
Sakonnet's Jonathan Swain took his second victory of the year over this weekend on the windy roads of Ohio. In the Road Race John drove a break of 4-men for
the remaining 50 miles of the event only to be outfoxed by one of his own teammates
for 2nd Place. In the next days Criterium Swain took things to task by attacking
solo and riding an amazing 38 miles on his own to an impressive 1st Place behind
a shattered field.
Bronx Duathlon - Bronx, NY (April 17th)
Sakonnet's running star Lee Sossen took his first run bike run victory of
the year in this local event. To start things off there was a 3-mile run followed by
a 20-mile time trial and a then another 3-mile run. Lee used his strong time trailing
skills to chisel out a 2-minute gap on the next man and took 1st Place.
Fort Lewis Collegiate Race Weekend - Durango, CO (April 16th)
Sakonnet's Chris Kuhl riding as a member of the FLC Team Time Trial took 1st
Place over this weekend's event. Chris' strong riding will most likely gain
him a place in the highly selective FLC team for Collegiate Nationals, which will
be held this year by Kansas University.
ARMY Collegiate Race Weekend - West Point, NY (April 16th & 17th)
Sakonnet's Peter Horn riding for Vassar showed us that he is more than a climber by finishing in 3rd Place at the ARMY 2.8mi Prologue in up state NY. Michael
Chauner (Bucknell) was also present for the events took a strong 6th Place in the
Criterium and 8th Place in the Road Race.
Spring Series Circuit Race - Brooklyn, NY (April 24th)
Sakonnet Team Manager Basil Moutsopoulos sprinted his way to 4th Place at
the last Spring Series event of the 2005 season. Basil launched a 15-man break
away that left the field with 27 miles to go. After repeated attempts to split
the non- working break the finish was contested in a sprint.
U.S Powerman Duathlon - Birmingham, AL (April 18th)
Sakonnet's Lee Sossen toed to the line at his first National Duathlon event
of the season. With an international field on hand Lee ran the first 5 miles finishing
in 16th, in the 55km ride he was up to 10th and in the finishing 5 mile run he finished
a strong 9th Place. Lee's strong performance has made him an alternate for the
U.S Long Course Duathlon World Championships to be contested in Treviso, Italy
this July.
