New York, NY (May 27th, 2005)
The New York City based CRCA/Sakonnet Technology Cycling Team continues it's tradition of taking young U25 riders to international stage races. In 2004 as a first year program, the team traveled to the FBD Milk Ras (Ireland) to great success. The European racing experience provided huge dividends when SKNT rider Andy Guptill was subsequently invited onto the U.S National Team. Andy's career has taken off since those hard days on the Emerald Isle with a ride at the 2005 Tour de Georgia and his current two month stint in Belgium in a stars and stripes jersey.
In 2006 with an eye on having fast racing miles in their legs prior to U.S U23 Nationals the team is traveling north to the Tour de Beauce Bell in Quebec, Canada. Nineteen years in the running the Tour de Beauce Bell is a UCI 2.2 event and holds an illustrious place in the UCI America Tour. This year's event is being held from June 14th thru June 19th and features some of the most demanding courses on the continent. Former winners of the event have been current Pro Tour riders, Levi Leipheimer (Gerolstiner), Henk Vogels (Lotto-Davitamon) and current world time trial champion Michael Rogers (Quick Step). Sakonnet's team at the event will be captained by David Wiswell who is returning from a spring of European racing in France and a ride at the amateur Paris - Roubaix with the U.S National Team. Director Sportif Basil Moutsopoulos will handle management duties along with Assistant Director Ravi Rajcoomar and John Sessa who comes to the team from HealthNet will handle Masseur/Mechanic duties.
