U23 Paris-Roubiax - France (May 29th)

Sakonnet rider David Wiswell has been selected to ride in the U23 Paris-Roubaix (May 29th) for the U23 U.S National Team. The professional event is known as the "Hell of the North" and is one of the most feared events of the racing calendar.

(In David Wiswell's own words) Well the weekend came to an end and "The Hell of the North" was a very fitting name for the race. We lined up with Rabobank and several other top level professional and amateur Espoir teams. The race got off to a good start, as I was up towards the front and the legs were feeling pretty good , but this all changed about 60km into the race. The riders were all fighting each other to be first into one of the sections of cobbles when I was pushed into the curb and, subsequently, went careening into a not-too-soft concrete wall. I was definitely banged up pretty badly. They initially thought I broke either my right femur or knee along with some head injuries, but I came out with only a bunch of road rash, a sore head/neck, and a banged up bike. The doctor has me in a neck brace, to be safe, for three days and then I should be back on the bike right after that. Either way, it was a bit disappointing as I was hoping for a better result but at least my injuries were not anymore severe. Next weekend is another big one-day classic here in Belgium so I will definitely be looking for a little redemption! Dave

Mayor's Grand Prix - Elkton, MD (May 22nd)

Sakonnet's Jonathon Swain and Michael Chauner gave the field a rough ride in today's event by constantly attacking and counter attacking the peleton. At the end the event came down to a field sprint and it was Swain who powered a 1km lead-out for Chauner resulting in a fine 3rd Place finish. Swain held as much of his position as possible and was 21st at the finish.

Floyd Bennet Field Road Race - Brooklyn, NY (May 21st)

Sakonnet's Louis Perez capped a nice month of results with a great effort in this Saturday's event. Another field sprint was in store for the peleton today and although Perez was feeling the effects of big block of racing he sprinted his way thru traffic to a solid 10th Place finish.

Lake Oswego Stage Race - Lake Oswego, NY (May 13th thru the 15th)

Sakonnet's Stephan Badger, Louis Perez and Lee Rosenthal traveled to upstate New York for this first annual stage race. Although the event seemed promising as in any new venture there were many organizational problems over the course of the weekend. No matter as SKNT riders featured in the all of the events. Badger lead the way in the 30+ event with a 7th Place in the I.T.T, 3rd Place in the Criterium, 7th Place in the Road Race, 2nd Place in the KOM competition and 8th Place in overall G.C. Perez continued to rack upgrade points in his criterium (Cat 4) with a fine 4th Place.

Collegiate Nationals T.T.T - Lawrence, KS (May 15th)

Sakonnet's Chris Kuhl was one of 4 Fort Lewis College Men who captured 1st Place in the Team Time Trial at Collegiate Nationals held on this day in Lawrence Kansas. The event was held on a rolling yet mostly flat 12 mile course, the FLC time of 26:18:32 was the best of the day followed 15 seconds later by the University of Washington and then 32 seconds later by the University of Indiana.
