U25 Alumnus Greg Abrahamson Checks In
20-JUN- 2005

New York, NY (June 20th, 2005)

Greg was part of the first class of U25 riders that the joined the Sakonnet Team for the 2004 season. His strength on the bike and his leadership skills made him road captain on our young squad. During the Tour of Ireland Greg was dubbed "Lion Heart" by the support staff for his unselfish riding and his commitment to his teammates. He has been sorely missed but as you will find he is doing well and has found new challenges to keep him fighting hard - Editor

After graduating from Ft. Lewis College in May of 2004 and racing all summer with the Team, which included a great trip to Ireland, I have since started a full-time job. I was looking forward to beginning a career and I accepted a position from the Inspector General-Department of Defense in the Audit and Finance division in Denver, Colorado where I now live.

My job as an auditor consists of doing audits on various programs within the Air Force and different sections of the DoD. It's a lot different auditing billions of dollars versus going out and training! I've had the opportunity of working in the Pentagon and at various other high security buildings around Washington D.C. Shortly after starting my job last September I spent 2 months there without my bike, which was quite a shock.

One of the perks of being an auditor is you get to travel quite a bit. Currently I'm working in Colorado Springs on the NORAD and NORTHCOM programs. I am also studying to become a CPA (Certified Public Accountant), which takes up the rest of my day. I took night classes from October thru April on Tuesday and Thursdays for four hours per session.

Between work and night class I've had a few hours a week to work out. I'm happy as long as I can get out a couple of times a week to either ride, go for a run or play some basketball in the park. I look forward to possibly racing again soon if I can find some more time to ride. I'd like to give a huge thanks to the whole Sakonnet crew for making last year such a great experience and leaving me with plenty of great memories for a lifetime.

Good luck in the years to come and at Espoir Nationals!
