4/8/06 Sea Otter Classic (Pro 1) - Monterey, CA

The The Sakonnet dynamic duo of Andy Guptill and Guy East tackled another NRC event last weekend. This event was held on the Laguna Seca racetrack in Montere, California. The field was surprised to find ProTour rider Levi Lepiheimer (Gerolstiner) at there along with the Spanish Continental Pro Team Orbea. The race was fast and furious and most of the field of 100 riders didn't make it to the finish.

Riding strong and beyond his years 18 year old East managed to hold the pace for three quarters of the event while team captain Guptill continues to show why he's the leader of Sakonnet by placing a fantastic 17th Place. Andy's finish was first amateur in the race and gained him another 8 NRC points. Andy is in 102nd of the NRC Individual Standings and the team should be ranked 27th in the NRC Team Standings after last weekend (currently we are ranked 31st however we are missing 5 points that have not been assigned to the team at this point yet this is being cleared up).

Special thanks goes out to Pat, Steve and Tracy Olson for arranging and hosting Andy in northern California the week before the race.

4/9/06 Bethel Spring Series Finals (Pro 1-2) - Bethel, CT

The event was won by professional Alejandro Acton (Target Training) with Sakonnet's Robbie Giannini taking 2nd Place. Robbie's second place over "Iron Mike" in this race catapulted Giannini to the overall win and 1st Place in the Individual G.C in this 5-week series. Sakonnet's Stephan Badger's strong riding gave him 3rd Place in the final Individual G.C and Sakonnet stole the show in the Team G.C competition with 1st Place as well.

4/8/06 CRCA Team Cup - Round #1 ("A" Field) - New York, NY

After a lack of focus in last years CRCA Team Cup the boys came to play at today's event, fielding a full squad of 6 riders. Lining up for Sakonnet was Badger, Wiswell, Sossen, Giannini, Perez and team manager Moutsopoulos. The event was held in cold and raining conditions, which saw Giannini crash and Moutsopoulos flat. Wiswell slipped the break in the closing laps but was out maneuvered for the win yet held on for a fine 4th Place, with a strong field sprint Badger took 7th Place on the day.

The team now sits in 2nd Place overall with 75 points in the Team Cup Standings.

Collegiate Review
