10/1 CRCA Circuit Race New York, NY
On Saturday morning David Wiswell made the winning move at one of the few remaining CRCA events of the season. The event began with a flurry of attacks but it wasn’t until midway thru the second lap that a group of roughly 12 riders road away from the peleton. David was the sole Sakonnet rider in the split however he was not in the break long enough for the team to worry about him being out numbered.
By the time teammates Lee Sossen and Basil Moutsopoulos bridged to the break David had already counter attacked with Ken Harris (Merrill Lynch). Thanks to Russell Kelly, Lee and Basil who locked down the chase the duo of Harris and David had a minute and a half to play with before sorting out the sprint to the line. In the end David took the two up sprint for 1st Place and his third win of the season.
9/23 CRCA Team Cup #5 New York, NY
While part of the team was celebrating Bob/Bruce’s wedding in Tuscany the rest of the squad was fighting hard at the last CRCA Team Cup of the season.
Sakonnet sat in third place before the race began and had a great shot of leap frogging to the overall team victory in the season long series. In the end after a morning of cold temperatures and wet weather it was the duo of Stephan Badger and Robbie Giannini who crossed the line at the head of the field. With a lap to go things looked like a field sprint and it was Mike Margarite who kept the field together and reeled in attacks, then Joao Correia took the reins and positioned Badger and Giannini at the front on Cats Paw Hill. Sprinting to the line Badger nabbed 2nd Place and Giannini was in 4th Place.
Unofficially the team finished in 2nd Place overall in the Team Cup series.
