10/11 Sakonnet Rider Turns Professional Durango, CO
Nineteen year old Sakonnet rider Caleb Fairly has signed a contract with the new VMG Continental Professional Team. It was a string of strong results with Sakonnet including the
Fitchburg Longsjo Stage Race (10th Place in the Criterium and 11th Place in the Circuit Race),
U23 Nationals (10th Place in the Road Race and 7th Place in the Criterium) and strong rides in Europe with the U23 National Team that sealed the deal for Caleb.
The new VMG program is a merger of this years VMG Professional team and the U23 National Team. Their program for 2007 is a combination of U.S. NRC events and continental racing in Europe with a base in Belgium.
“We are so very excited for Caleb and we wish him all the best” said Sakonnet Director Basil Moutsopoulos. “It shows that our program is working when we have two riders in one season making the jump to the paid ranks. First Andy Guptill goes to Target Training and now Caleb follows in his footsteps with VMG. Granted we’ll have to replace Caleb which will be hard to do but graduating him is a high class problem to have” commented Moutsopoulos.

The first event is the UIV 6-Day Talents Cup in Amsterdam Holland (Oct 19th to the 21st) followed by the UIV 6-Day Talents Cup in Dortmund Germany (Oct 27th to the 29th). Guy will be racing a series of Points Races, Elimination Races, Madison’s and a Team Time Trial at both events.
10/7 U.S Elite Track Nationals Los Angeles, CA
Guy East and David Wiswell finished in fantastic 6th Place at the Madison event held at the Home Depot Velodrome in Los Angeles, California. Racing all week in various events Guy and David had their sights set on the Madison as their best chance to medal. Going into the last sprint the race was up for grabs and the boys finished up with a high overall placing out of 15 registered teams. Considering Guy and David have only raced 3 previous Madison’s together it was fine performance and their potential is unlimited.
