Clutch of Results to Start 2008

3/3 New York Spring Series (New York, NY)

It was a cold morning hovering around 26 degrees in Central Park. Gavi Epstein and team road manager Matt Koschara one two’d the field with hard attacks to warm things up. By the beginning of lap two a break of 9 riders was off the front, included in this group was Gavi while Matt played the dutiful teammate and slowed down the chase. By the last lap the group of 9 dwindled down to 7 and a sprint ensued where Gavi charged to a podium placing.

3/2-3 North End Classic Omnium (Yuma, AZ)

Bauman Sprints to Top 10 GC
Aggressive riding and heads up sprinting earned Ryan a top GC finish in an early season stage race with a high caliber Arizona field. In Saturday’s criterium Ryan nabbed critical GC points after taking second in two intermediate sprints while finishing in 8th place on the stage. In the 110 mile road race Ryan spent most of the day in the winning break away until Curtis Gunn (Successful Living) & Matt Shriver (Jittery Joe’s) shattered the group to pieces. A mild bonk halted Ryan’s progress but he still managed to finish 6th on the stage and 7th in overall GC.

Travis Continues to Rack Up the Results
Travis sprints w/ Steve Tilford (Trek)The Texas season opener drew a large field including teams from neighboring Mexico. The race saw a two man break-away stay clear of a fast moving chase group of 17 riders including Travis and racing legend Steve Tilford (Trek). Travis sprinted his way thru traffic and onto the podium.

2/24 Pace Bend Criterium (Pace Bend, TX)

Travis Avoids Crashes in Wild Field Sprint
Smooth roads with small rollers and a downhill sprinters finish was tailored made for a field sprint. Travis escaped the carnage and cracked the top ten for another great result.

2/23 Scottsdale Grand Prix Criterium (Scottsdale, AZ)

Ryan Hits the Podium
After wining 3 out of 4 primes and being in a break-away which was caught with four laps to go Ryan could have called it a day. Yet that was not the case, in Ryan’s own words “I sat on until 1 lap to go, caught a train going up to the front of the race, and snagged 5th in the field sprint.”

Sakonnet Riders Snatch UCI Points

Last year four Sakonnet riders had such a good time at the Tour of Belize that two riders, Gavi and Guy, couldn’t resist a return trip. Gavi was invited to race for the defending champion’s team Santinos and Guy made the trip as part of the U.S. U23 National Team. Both riders had a fantastic week of racing besting their results from last season and it was in the queen stage of the race that both Guy and Gavi road together in a break-away that rocketed them up in the General Classification.

2/10 Old Town Criterium (Scottsdale, AZ)

Ryan Starts the Season with a BANG
Ryan made his successful racing debut for the 08 season on a 10-turn downtown criterium course. After wining a mid race prime Ryan was sprinting well yet a late race attack escaped the field and he to adjust his sprint for 8th place.

2/10 Heart of Alsatian Country Road Race (Alsatian, TX)

Travis Recovers from Flat Tire to Top Result
87 miles with a Roubaix section of road and a tough finishing hill made this an exciting race. With two laps to go Travis suffered a flat tire but have a quick wheel change Travis went into TT mode and put his head down. A strung out field came across the line in ones and twos while Travis brought home a strong finish despite his mishap.

2/9 Heart of Alsatian Country Criterium (Alsatian, TX)

Texas Debut for Sakonnet Ends in Field Sprint
Flying the Sakonnet orange for the first time this year in Texas Travis got down to business. 75 minutes of fast racing and a field sprint later Travis nabbed his first top 10 result of the season.
